Mokume-Gane is a Japanese metalworking technique. It translates to "wood grain metal". It is a laborious and technical technique that involves fusing two or more types of metal to create layers, then manipulating the layers to create a unique design.
For these rings I made a length of mokume wire from equal amounts of silver and copper. I then soldered a strip of silver to the back of the mokume wire, so that the finished rings are lined with sterling silver, as the copper will discolor many peoples' skin.
I may or may not continue to make these in the future. Mokume-Gane is incredibly time consuming work. I am pleased to have made this run of originally 10 rings, now 8.
